What I’m looking for when registering domains

I’m a bit of a closet domainer and to be fair with you I think I’ve got some pretty decent names under my belt . . . I’m not talking the biggies like shopping.ca or anything like that, but I do have so high quality, relevant domains that generate a fair bit of traffic by themselves.

Like most I have my own preferred supplier for my domain name registration purposes. I’m comfortable with my registrar, the services they provide and the way that they do business. I have toyed with the idea of becoming a registrar myself, but to be honest I don’t theink the cost and the hassle is worth it to me at the moment.

I’m also seeing a range of new domain name registration services hitting the market these days, and whilst I have my favourite, I’m still quite happy to give these boys a try – you just don’t know what’s out there untill you try it for yourself do you?

I think that above all, when I’m registering domain names, what I’m looking for is a good quality, fast and simple back end system that allows me to manage all my domains in one place – so long as I’ve got that, I’m generally pretty happy. An API is also good but that’s not a concern to most domainers who are just registering ad-hoc.
